Once Upon a time...

Once upon a time, there was an impressive 14th-century building named "Beaulieu." This structure was located in front of the current château clubhouse, where the first tee stands today.

The Château de Beaulieu was demolished in the early 19th century, and the only remaining vestige visible today is the dovecote, which is now used for our golf clubs and trolleys.

The complete destruction of Beaulieu was mainly due to the mindset of the wealthy and modern landowners of the 19th century, who frequently demolished old buildings to rebuild more functional and lavish ones as they pleased.

The current château clubhouse was built in 1820. Modern and practical, this building featured central heating, which was a luxury at the beginning of the 19th century!

The underground cellars served as kitchens, with a pantry and a boiler room. Today, these rooms are used as locker rooms, fully equipped with showers, lockers, and toilets.

The ground floor had the same number of rooms as today, but they were primarily used for receptions, family gatherings, and dinners. Today, the ground floor houses the golf and hotel reception area, as well as a restaurant, a bar, and a lounge.

All family and guest rooms were located on the first floor, while the smaller rooms on the second floor were reserved for staff who lived and worked in the château. For example, in 1850, the estate alone employed 15 full-time workers.

During World War II, the German army took control of the château. A general and his eight men used it as their headquarters to oversee the V1 bombing launch site in the Eawy Forest. Our château was incredibly fortunate not to have been bombed at the end of the war by the Germans. Unfortunately, another beautiful château, just 1 km away, was not as lucky.

After the war, the château was returned to its original family and became a holiday home until 1985.

The Golf de Saint-Saëns opened its first five holes in the spring of 1988, and one year later, the course was completed with a total of 18 holes.

A member of the Partouche hotel and casino group since 1995, the Golf de Saint-Saëns is now a 6,000-meter par 71 course, designed on a 200-hectare estate bordering the Eawy Forest, renowned as one of the most beautiful beech forests in France.

In recent years, our course has achieved a perfect blend of scenic beauty and variety, making it a fantastic holiday golf course that is not too physically demanding.
